Active Research Groups

Cheentan Research Foundation has several active work groups. Each work group aims to tackle problems in that area of mathematical science. Ideally multiple project leaders and researchers can be involved in a work-group. You join as a Research Associate, Reader or Investigator in any of these groups. Apply here

Geometric Group Theory

Geometric Group Theory is at the confluence of topology and group theory. The team at Cheentan Research studies relative hyperbolicity, topology at boundaries and allied topics.

Dynamical Systems

A dynamical system is a system in which a function describes the time dependence of a point in an ambient space. Examples include the mathematical models that describe the swinging of a clock pendulum, the flow of water in a pipe, and the number of fish each springtime in a lake.

Research in Mathematics Learning

Mathematics education research groups is interested in developing tools for pedagogy at the pre-college level and practices such as Math circles.

Reading Courses

CRF conducts research related reading courses on frontiers of mathematical sciences. Students are invited to join these reading courses for research engagement.

Group theoretic Dehn fillings

Group theoretic Dehn fillings are constructed by Osin and Groves-Manning around 2007-08. This concept has been used in the proof of a variety of problems including that of the Virtual Haken Conjecture. In this mini course we will explore the construction and the current state of knowledge on this topic.
Speaker: Dr. Ashani Dasgupta
Schedule: 5th December 2022 - 5 July 2023
Geometric Group Theory Research Track

Discrete dynamical system

This mini course explores discrete dynamical systems.
Speaker: Dr. Sankhadip Chakraborty
Schedule: 28th November 2022 - 28th May 2023
Dynamical Systems Research Track

Group action on spaces

This mini course explores the action of groups on spaces. In particular we consider group actions on trees, covering space actions, Bass Serre Theory and convergence actions.
Speaker: Dr. Ashani Dasgupta
Schedule: 1st April 2022 - 30th November 2022
